North-western Jutland - the Danish Riviera
All the way from Skagen in the north to Agger in the south you can experience some of the finest, whitest and broadest sandy beaches in Northern Europe. Small, picturesque holiday towns are situated all the way along the coast. Some places it is still possible to watch the fishermen as they drag their boats up on the beach, as it has been done for hundreds of years. At Grenen, the northernmost point of Denmark, you can place each of your feet in different oceans, The Skagerak and the Kattegat. Anywhere along the coast you can enjoy some of the most scenic sunsets over the North Sea.
Culture and history
With its quite unique light, the top of Denmark has attracted artists from the whole world. Around the beaches, in the dunes and in the harbours you can observe some of the old bunkers from World War II.
Activities
The high velocity of wind and the large waves make the area a paradise for surfers. Enjoy the impressive sight of the colourful windsurfers along the coastline. Besides bathing by the beaches, which are often awarded with the environment flag 'Blue Flag', hang-gliding and beach volley are also popular activities here. Inland, sheltered by the dunes, you can ride your bicycle or hike in the many lovely nature areas or along the path 'Vestkyststien', play golf, ride on horses, fish etc. You can also visit farms or observe some of the many artists of the area as they work in their workshops and galleries. North western Jutland is a musical oasis in a class of its own with various music festivals throughout the summer.
